Hands of Joy GALLERY

Photographer Mark Luke wanted to photograph hands, lots of hands, singly, together, and in patterns. So he and Tandy invited their friends to a big party, luring them with great food and a slide show of Marks recent work. The results were fun and fantastic. .

Always up for an opportunity to play, Tandy designed a special poster for the event. He made the design with only basic hand signs and called his design "Hands of Joy." Later he made the design into greeting cards, hoping that selling them would help support us when we moved to Ashland. We couldn't sell them  through usual channels because distributors insist we needed at least five to sell as a set.  We tried other colors, but the nature of the design just screams for RED!

Tandy had learned American Sign Language from deaf friends some years earlier. I would love to see organizations for the deaf to take the design idea and come up with their own. They could use their designs for items to sell at fund raising events, or even a logo for their group or organization.

Everyone who doesn't know sign asks what the signs spell. The answer is: they don't say anything, but it would be great if they did. Can you think up a design? A patterns that also spells something? A scrabble set with signs on the tiles would be a fun way to learn to sign the alphabet. If you want to take these ideas forward, I'd love to hear that you did something inspired by Tandy's design.

If you love the design as much as I do, you might want to get greeting cards or a t-shirt, sweat shirt or poncho. My intentions for the site are not business oriented, but if I go in that direction, I'll add a link here to an order form.
